- Sheppard was a young doctor working with his family at Bay View Hospital near Cleveland when his wife was brutally murdered on 4 July 1954. Suspicion centered on him immediately, and he was convicted of his wife's murder in December 1954, despite his claims of innocence, his cooperation with authorities, and the lack of any physical evidence linking him to the crime. Sheppard obtained a reversal of his conviction in the federal courts, and on his release in 1964, he immediately married his penpal and sweetheart. Two years later, in 1966, the U.S. Supreme Court affirmed the reversal of his conviction in a landmark case, and Sheppard was tried again. This time, without the media hysteria surrounding the first trial, Sheppard was acquitted. He was unable to overcome the effects of his ten-year imprisonment, however, and died a broken man.

Perhaps best remembered as TV's first Amahl in Gian Carlo Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors (1951), Chet Allen was also a member of the famous Columbus Boychoir (now the American Boychoir) during that period. Although he made a few other notable appearances over the years, most notably in the film Meet Me at the Fair (1953) with Dan Dailey and Scatman Crothers, and as one of Ezio Pinza's sons on his TV series, Bonino (1953) when his voice changed, so did his life, for the worse. Like many another former child star, he drifted from job to job and, in his case, in and out of psychiatric hospitals. When Menotti himself visited him in Columbus, about a year before his death, he found a bitterly unhappy young man for whom life had been a series of disappointments. "No one could have helped him enough," Menotti would later say. In 1984, at the age of 44, Chet Allen killed himself by taking five times the fatal dosage of the prescription anti-depressant he'd been taking.- Homer Williams was born on 3 July 1913 in Russell County, Alabama, USA. Born Gertrude Pridgett in Columbus, GA, in 1886, Ma Rainey is widely regarded as among the best of the early 20th-century blues singers. She was born into a family of minstrel performers and first appeared onstage when she was 14, and at age 18 married William "Pa" Rainey, a noted song-and-dance man in minstrel shows. They began performing together and traveled all over the South, both by themselves and as part of minstrel shows (Pa Rainey is reported to have met Bessie Smith while with the Rabbit Foot Minstreals, and gave her pointers on performing). In 1923 the pair signed a recording contract with Paramount Records, which billed her as "The Mother of the Blues". By the time she ended her recording career in late 1928, she had recorded approximately 100 songs, among them such classics as "C.C. Rider", "Jelly Bean Blues", "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom" and "Boll Weevil Blues". Many of her records and performances were backed by such musicians as Louis Armstrong, Coleman Hawkins and Buster Bailey.
She was noted for her flamboyant costumes while performing, often wearing gowns heavily laden with sequins, shiny headbands and necklaces made of gold coins. By the 1930s, however, her career began to fade, and she retired--a very wealthy woman--in 1933, returning to her home town of Columbus, where she died of a heart attack in 1939.- Actor

Tim Wilson was born on 5 August 1961 in Columbus, Georgia, USA. He was an actor and writer, known for Mountain Mafia (2012), Come Early Morning (2006) and My 5 Wives (2000). He was married to Deidre Wilson. He died on 26 February 2014 in Columbus, Georgia, USA.- Born, June 19, 1939, announcer Jim Carlisle of WRBL-TV, Channel 3, Columbus, Georgia, graduated from Jordan Vocational High School in Columbus in 1957. He's married to the former Miss Betty Ann Stokes of Columbus. They have one son - Derek Scott - born December 28, 1968.
Jim has been in the radio and television industry since December 2, 1955, having started while still in high school. He has worked at stations in Chattanooga, Tenn., Montgomery, Ala., Mobile, Ala., LaGrange, Georgia, and, of course, Columbus. Has now been with WRBL-TV, Channel 3, since September of 1965. Jim is very versatile on TV, having done just about every type of program that there is.
During the late 1960's, he did a very popular show for the younger set, called "Blast-Off with V-Man," a space-man type show. After V-Man appeared in a downtown Christmas parade one year, the Columbus newspapers came out with an article saying that V-Man drew more applause from the children, and seemed to be more popular with the children, than even Santa Claus himself.
Jim calls the action on TV Wrestling every Saturday afternoon at 4:00 on WRBL-TV.
He is also the ring announcer at the wrestling matches at the Columbus Auditorium every Wednesday night.
He also writes a column, "At Ringside With Jim Carlisle," for the official wrestling program which is sold every Wednesday night at the auditorium. He gives background information on the various wrestlers who see action in the Columbus ring.
All his wrestling activities are in association with promoter Fred Ward of Columbus.
Jim's favorite past time and hobby is fishing. He goes just about every chance he gets. A member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Jim is a Past Governor of the Columbus, Georgia, Moose Lodge No. 1166. He is also a member of the Legion of the Moose.
Jim says that he enjoys his association with wrestling, and is glad the opportunity came his way a couple of years ago. His Saturday afternoon wrestling telecasts have proven to be extremely popular with the area fans.
Several of the wrestlers have told Jim that he is one of the best that they had ever heard at calling the action on TV. And, considering the fact that they had heard wrestling announcers all across the country, Jim considers this to be a great compliment. - Actor

Before he became "The Poet of the Piano", classically-trained Cavallaro had enjoyed a modestly successful earlier career as a soloist in society dance bands led by Al Kavelin, Abe Lyman and Enric Madriguera (at the time he was simply billed as 'Carmen'). In 1939, he fronted his own orchestra which made its debut at the Statler Hotel in St. Louis. This eventually blossomed into a 14-piece organisation which featured the future musical comedy and night club entertainer Larry Douglas on vocals and was built around Carmen's flashy piano solos (notable, especially, for the scintillating speed of his octave playing). There were, unusually, no trombones. The band generally consisted of three trumpets, four saxes, a four to five-piece string section (featuring a viola and/or cello) and a rhythm section comprising drums, bass and guitar. Carmen's theme song was "My Sentimental Heart". With its lush sound and Cavallaro's distinctive style of showmanship, the band reached the peak of its popularity in the mid-40s, especially with aficionados of sweet 'society-style' dance music. It worked the hotel and club circuits, headlining at top venues like New York's Paramount Theatre, the Waldorf-Astoria, the Coconut Grove in Los Angeles, the Mark Hopkins in San Francisco and Frank Dailey's Meadowbrook. Cavallaro made prolific recordings for the Decca label and broadcast live on the Sheaffer Parade which was aired nationwide every Sunday afternoon. He also appeared as himself in several motion pictures including Hollywood Canteen (1944) and Diamond Horseshoe (1945). A massive popular hit was his recording of the piano soundtrack for The Eddy Duchin Story (1956) a year before joining ASCAP. In the 1950s, Cavallaro relinquished the orchestra and began leading smaller combos. He continued to turn out numerous best-selling records ("Cavallaro Plays Ellington", "For Latin Lovers", "Stairway to the Stars", etc.) as well as pursuing a solo career in night clubs and on radio. His own song compositions have included "While the Nightwind Sings", "Wanda" and "Masquerade Waltz". Among his other best-selling hits were popular versions of Chopin's "Polonaise", "Warsaw Concerto, "Hungarian Rhapsody No. 12", "Fascination", "Zing Went the Strings of My Heart", "I Didn't Know What Time it Was" and "Just One of Those Things".- Alyce Seff was born on 24 October 1926. Ricky Baldwin was born in a Kentucky farmhouse, (just like Daniel Boone).
Each of Ricky's clans taught him to love and laugh, as he often fell asleep listening to aunts and uncles describe their zany childhood adventures - those memories helped Ricky become a storyteller...
His parents also raised 2 younger sisters. Camping trips were Ricky's best childhood memories. While raising his child Rebecca, he continued with those same camping traditions.
He enjoyed playing high school football with the America's only two-time Heisman trophy winner, Archie Griffin.
His first stage role was Alfie Dolittle in "My Fair Lady". Won that role by singing in cockney voice, Herman's Hermits tune Henry the Eighth! Since that time, Ricky's been a teacher, appeared in National and International TV, Print, and Film, and been blessed with two grandchildren, (they call him "Poppy").
In 2006 Ricky retired from a 28-year career in infant formula as he worked for the Ross Products Division of Abbott Labs. In that career, he cared for the physical needs of all children, and now as Santa all year, he enjoys caring for the emotional needs of all children, especially those known as adults. As Santa, Ricky combines all his theater, singing, storytelling, and even puppetry into his act. People enjoy his 4 foot tall polar bear puppet, Pierre. He's booked live events nationally and even in Hong Kong.
